The fact that they're charging for background play when you used to be able to play videos in the background on your phone

On Apple's app you could. Not on Google's. Also, who cares? Ad-free and offline play. If you don't like the feature, don't pay for it. It's not that complicated.

That's not the bad thing about YouTube Red. It's the fact that content creators are getting their videos blocked for not agreeing to give YouTube a cut of their ad revenue.

Surely you can just not sign up to Youtube Red and carry on exactly as normal? I don't care about a few adverts.

YouTube already gets a cut of their ad revenue... They get a large chunk of it actually... Google gets the money from ads and then sends paychecks to the YouTubers... That's how it works.

Who is really going to pay $10 to avoid ads...Adblock anyone? so stupid. You can easily DL Youtube vids on a million different sites too.

The issue with this argument is that we don't know what the new terms entail. They may not change anything for the people that upload videos. It's just a legality that they have to sign off on it (because they're entirely restructuring the format of pay, it's kind of necessary). If someone doesn't sign onto it, then it's like a YouTuber not accepting the terms when they first uploaded their video. There's not much difference. Calm down.

Also, again, ad revenue is all sent to Google and then they distribute the checks. YouTubers don't get directly paid from ads.
