Host commentary - Ughhhh. Of all the Erotica songs to punch before top 40, did it have to be this one? I’m literally disgusted. Y’all did this song and JakeKills wrong. Read HonVom, LLM, and Vilppu’s commentary for my thoughts on the song.
Guest commentary
HonourableVomit -Whoever gave this less than a 9 has no heart. "No I'm not HIV-positive, but what if I were? I would be more afraid of how society would treat me for having the disease than the actual disease itself. If this is what I have to deal with for my involvement in fighting this epidemic, then so be it." "I'm not afraid to be associated with people who are HIV-positive, and I am not afraid to love people who are HIV-positive. Because their ordeal is more important than mine, because their courage is larger than mine, because what they're facing is real. And if we can learn to deal with real, and our fears, then I'm hopeful that we can conquer this disease."
Vilppu - After a bunch of sex-themed songs Madge tones down with this little wonderful ballad. At first it might seem boring but it's really one of her most emotional and heart-breaking tracks with beautiful lyrics about her friend who died because of AIDS.
Reinvention - Instrumental reminds me of something I would hear in Final Fantasy VIII – a good thing! Will definitely be revisiting this song.
Eeveelution- I appreciate the lyrics but GOD this is such a drag. Leave the stodgy, lifeless instrumentals to BS please!
Subomie - Love the message and emotion, especially from the premier gay icon of the time. It's just a bit... dull though?
Alongoria13 - Maybe I'm an emotionless piece of **** but this song has never done anything to me.
Pandora – One of the more memorable tracks from the album. I really love this one for lots of different reasons.
LoveLiveMusic - Without a doubt one of my favorite songs by Madonna as a whole. I give this a ten because lyrically its one that still speaks to the gay community 2 decades later. The song is brought to life in The Girlie Show World Tour so well in the Studio 54 segment of the show. Madonna herself speaks about losing friends to AIDS and to see her singing all alone shows how her friends must have felt when there was such a stigma around it. Her outreached hand to the audience of ‘Who’s next? Who determines who’s next?’ is brings people from a global scale to a communal scale.
