"that's how it's always been in hollywood" is not an excusable way to push this under the rug. identifying the problem but saying that's just how things have been done is not progress.
the movie is taking place in America right? The director just wanted a white actor to play light, some roles are just made for a specific race like get over it.
Did you see his acting in that one clip he used? He's terrible.
Also he needs to decide whether he wants to actually be a serious actor or if he just wants to be famous. Look at the way he tries to name drop and the type of Youtube videos he makes and you'll understand.
I'm begging any of you to PLEASE make an argument on how her, Sailor Moon, and Sailor Venus look remotely asian. Tell me these three don't look white what-so-ever. Tell me what those "aren't just white features!!!" and how it's yellow, not blonde!!!! Tell me how many asian women naturally look like this in Japan.
Fairy Tail takes place in europe, that blonde girl even has a western name.
Y'all so ****ing stupid for replying to Vin's and Blatboy's posts instead of focusing on the real issue which is white washing.
Just report the uglies and punch them out of this site
Do some you even watch anime? non Asian characters look blatantly different. Stop with the blue eyes, blonde hair bull... Tell me one person who has naturally purple/ pink/ red/ white/yellow eyes
Character's hair and eyes are designed for aesthetic not realism.
Case in point:
Center: Rin Matsuoka (Japanese)
Left and Right: Rin's Australian home-stay parents
so going by this logic the characters in Claymore aren't white?
I do agree that hollywood whitewashing is an issue. But I also believe that characters should be portrayed as closely possible to the real events or the way the author/creator wanted it to be portrayed.
For example in the same way that I think the Stonewall Riots film should have casted POC and trans people instead of whitewashing the film like they did, James Bond should always be kept as white. Deathnote is set in Japan and therefore Asian Actors should be used.
