FORT MYERS, Fla. - One person is dead, four are injured and a suspect is at large after a shooting in downtown Fort Myers during ZombiCon, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.
Victor Medico, a Fort Myers police spokesman, said police received a call for shots fired at 11:45 p.m. on the 2200 block of First Street.
A large crowd of event-goers fled east down First yelling of gunshots. A gathering surrounded a bloodied body on the ground on First between Bayview Court and Hendry Street.
A victim suffering from a gunshot wound was located in front of 2224 First Street. The male subject died at the scene, the Fort Myers Police Department reports.
I was there at the event a few steps away from the street where it happened. I saw a huuuuuge crowd running away, my friends and I thought it was a part of the event, until we saw Police officers running towards the scene. It was extremely terrifying. There were people crying on the ground everywhere. So sad Thankfully my friends and I made it out safe a long with the rest of the people that went. It was so packed... around 20-25k people were there.
Thank you. I'm honestly still in disbelief that this happened so close to me. I didn't see the actual shooting but I saw when people started running, crying on the floor everything. Crazy. This even was so fun and now it's pretty much ruined.
