i think it's only really sensible to deem whether a song is a classic around ten years after it's been released. anything earlier and you're basically going to list the biggest hits you remember from the past few years

That doesn't mean much. A song could get forgotten now, then in 10 years get picked up by some trendy TV commercial and out of nowhere become relevant again. Judging songs based on their trajectory since they came out is more accurate
The reality is, that this "Legend status" or "Classic quality" is all very subjective and indeterminable. The requirements for them seem to differ from person to person while textbook definitions are no help since they basically address these to any slightly old songs/artists that are well known. Arguing between ourselves is kinda pointless too
