Eddie Lampert didn't run it completely to the ground but he definitely made things worse. If I'm not mistaken, both Kmart and Sears plan to be profitable by selling the real estate the stores sit on. In some cases, Sears actually subleased space in its own stores to grocery stores (There was a Kroger proposed for the top level of a Sears in Atlanta, and Whole Foods currently subleases the bottom level of a Sears in Greensboro, NC)
