EMOTION is better/more cinematic than Beyoncé, 1989, Bangerz
Very nice article, that truly understands the beauty of Carly Rae's album.
Quote:
It is, however, the best pop album of 2015 at the moment: a sweeping, spine-tingling, eighties-infused melodic odyssey full of concise, confectionary tracks that are as vigorously detailed as they are deeply-felt, slickly-engineered but never soulless. It’s as fun as Bangerz, but without the iffy cultural pilfering, and as sharply-conceived a crowd-pleaser as 1989, but without the beaming self-congratulation. (Seriously, send all the Taylor Swift fans in your life a copy of E·MO·TION and start the Carly Raevolution!) It’s also, in my mind, as much of a visual album as Beyoncé, but with one major caveat: you don’t have to watch a thing.
I love love LOVE 1989, but E•MO•TION just slays me so much it's amazing. And Carly had no promo, let's be real. And the album release was f'ed up from the beginning and really scattered; just because she has a huge fan base in Japan it didn't mean the US and Europe had to get the album later. It should've been one, global date and the fact that the record got no actual promo from the label when it really is top notch is beyond sad.
I won’t pretend that Jepsen's E·MO·TION, the third studio release from the Canadian Idol crossover star turned “Call Me Maybe” songstress, holds even half the zeitgeist-defining significance of Beyoncé’s musical-visual juggernaut.
I completely agree with the visual part. When I Needed You is more cinematic than those albums alone and Warm Blood is one of the best songs of the year imo.
Yes. When Beyonce came out everyone walking down the street was talking about it the next day. Most people don't know Emotion. BUT, Emotion did what Beyonce did and more without a music video for every single song.
Obviously I enjoyed Bey's album more but EMOTION deserves all the success of Self-Titled and 1989. "All That" and RAWM are two of my favorite songs in 2015.
