I love living in the South. People here are so sweet and laid back. I dunno why people are under the impression that driving through the South all you'll see are gays and blacks being beaten on sidewalks by white people clutching bibles or something.
Every bit of this (I'm from South Carolina ). People act like there aren't racists/homophobes/bible thumpers all over the USA.
I used to live in Orlando and no one really considered it (Florida) the South.
Anyways, I hated the South. There's overall more forms of entertainment (if you have a good income) but I found it to be far more dangerous than the Northeast.
I have a friend who lived in Kentucky and she claims it was it an extremely homophobic environment.
I'm from North Carolina and I like the south quite fine. It's ignorant to characterize the region as being nothing but "Hicks and Bigots", especially when those "Hicks and Bigots" are EVERYWHERE in this country. Sure, we aren't California (Which I find to be a very overrated place to live) but isn't all blue collar, dated looking and rural.
