Musically, yes. Performance-wise, Janet has probably had the most influence on today's performers.

It's really just an ATRL thing. Non-US media publications are not shy about referring to her as a legend or pop icon.

Her brother did and this is her problem. She was seen as copying him in the beginning so she's never been considered original.

Today's performers are nowhere near as good as Janhova.

Janet is obviously a global legend. It's just Madonna and Britney Spears fans who pretend like she's unknown in their developing countries.

Her commercial success did not live on the way that her impact did. Her reach has always been more U.S.-centric and Nipplegate, despite being an iconic moment, ultimately hurt her appeal in her biggest market and crashed her catalog sales, hindering the next generation's knowledge of her.

She's undeniably a legend, imo, but if you're 14 and new to music, chances are you're probably not familiar with Janet, especially if you were born outside of the U.S.
