Not really. They've been bred in captivity, so they'd die in the wild. They'll be better treated with SeaWorld until then.

This is pretty much SeaWorld's final call. Studies show animals bred in captivity don't have the strength and will to survive in the wild as they've become used to their habitat. You can't expect them to shut down overnight and send the animals back into the wild. SeaWorld's main attraction is the orcas, and for the past few years now their revenue has been slipping. Them not being able to have orcas in their park signifies the end of the road for the park.

Bear in mind in captivity, they only live roughly 13 years.

Yes and it's a MASSIVE bugbear of mine. SeaWorld are spending millions of dollars to expand their tanks for these animals and people still complain, but I don't see people moaning about the size of a lion or tigers compound, which is also nothing compared to free land in the wild.

If you're gonna moan about one, you can't not moan about the other.

Not really, zoo's have programs in which they only house animals who were hurt or bred in captivity. Most zoo's have a policy of capturing animals for education and through ex-situ conservation methods they have breeding protocols they follow and help re-introducing those animals into the wild (and their offspring too).

i think by saying it's "only" a step up they meant it's only one sea world (san diego) but there are also other sea worlds or even sea worlds and zoos where new animals (still) keep getting added

Depends on the zoo, but at least they don't force their animals to perform in front of loud crowds for food.

Kinda unfair to Sea World tbh, there are lots of zoos with endangered animals and they do nothing against them.

The Sea World negative propaganda was too much. But yeah, good riddance, lets hope that zoos are next.
