Anyway, this is definitely Rihanna's "Artpop" era. She doesn't have a major label telling her what she can and can't do (she's on her own little thing now with distribution through Roc Nation) so she probably is like "I'm gonna do something creative for me". It's with that attitude, though, that "underperformance" or "flop" usually follows. Sometimes, popstars that aren't the most musically inclined should let the experts tell them what to do. I know it sounds like a crappy thing to say, but I don't think Rihanna is exactly the most intelligent person to be calling the business shots on her career... especially after the under-performances of every single one of her songs this year... That's just my opinion.
