This is why Alesha Dixon is "re-writing the chart rules" with her new music
Quote:
The 37-year-old singer has taken herself out of the race, purposefully making summer single 'The Way We Are' chart ineligible.
A UK rights/licensee may request the Official Charts Company to exclude a record from the Charts, but only at its absolute discretion, and they did so for Alesha.
"Here's the deal: if you look at it as an equal playing field then I think it would be fine to release music and to see where it officially charts," Alesha told us of the reason behind the decision.
"But I think in this day and age, for artists like myself who are doing it independently and don't necessarily have as much radio support, you might need to get a certain chart position, you can't expect the same results as another artist if you're not getting the same exposure or [have that] machine behind you. That's what I mean by re-writing the rules."
The star also admits that her "whole life depended on a chart position" early on in her career, while teasing a future return for her former group Mis-Teeq.
Her lead single, upcoming single & album will not be charting.
At first, I thought her exclusion from the chart was just her team trying to save face , but what she says about independent artists is absolutely true. I agree with her. You go girl
Alesha is so talented. She's a great dancer too, she should hit the boards @ the West End tbh. But good on ha doing what she loves. Queen of not charting.
