Second, how are those names remotely African? Point me to the ethnic group where those names originate from cause

Well I think calling them "afrocentric" is a misnomer. They are popular names among African Americans, having risen in popularity sometime around the 70s/80s(?) Could be totally wrong but I heard it was tied to Roots and the forsaking of "slave names"?

I guess they didn't have access to Google and behindthename.com then to find pretty, traditional (in certain regions) African names like Aisha, Imani, etc, so they began making up their own names
They definitely weren't around that long, every old black lady I know has names like "Loretta" "Patti", etc. My mom and their aunts are black, 50+, and all have old english lady names like Patricia, Elizabeth, Bernice, Delores, Gertrude, etc

Well I haven't seen the full segment, but I wonder if they were referencing something else? Cuz that's what it sounded like Raven said in the beginning. And there was a viral video a while back where guys were parodying "ghetto" names and watermelondrea & kingkongquisha were two of them
edit: wow, apparently that is the video

Why were they discussing it now? I remember seeing it discussed on the TYRA SHOW, back in like, 2007
