The name of this food is sweet mochi. No its not a Chinese exotic food, its just one of a common dessert in China. Those insects were bees, and u can probably guarantee its safety and the authenticity of the ingredients if u see bees flying around ur sweet dessert cause it means it has less or no dangerous food chemicals whatsoever. If the food is safe for the bees, then it is most definitely safe for human consumption as well.
