Hepner uses a clever combination of analog and digital tech to convert those 140 characters into a physical object she can photograph. The result is strange, colorful, almost psychedelic “Twitter portraits” of the mundane, and occasionally inane, musings of the rich and famous.
Even mindless blather from Lady Gaga becomes something fascinating. “Lady Gaga butt tweets and then apologizes and then deletes the tweet three days later, [and] I thought it was fun to capture that,” Hepner says.
A selection of her work is being shown at the Noorderlicht Photo Festival in The Netherlands, and one of them will be etched onto a ruby disc for the Moon Arts Group, which plans to send an “arts ark” to Earth’s satellite as part of the Google Lunar X Prize.
