No one is saying employer doesn't have the right to fire someone. I'm talking about the ethics of contacting a boss on some moral crusade because you don't like what someone says. People are quick to say "Call the boss!" because it's racism, but what happens when it isn't? Lots of viewpoints are unpopular.

I think some people just want to "punish" the person, but does the punishment fit the crime? One rude comment, and bang you're unemployed. If the employer doesn't know what happened, why go the extra step and call for their head on a silver platter.

Because most people on Reddit have usernames that are not their real names. If they are using their real names then comments on there would leave them just a vulnerable to being fired as Facebook comments. Like it or not, with the laws set up as they are not we live in a society where companies have the right to pick and choose who they associate with and what kinds of stuff they want their employees, who are a representation of them, to say and do online. Obviously most companies don't want their employees associated with racism. You're right in the fact that none of these people would have the guts to say this **** to that kid in real life, but that is what the internet does, it brings out the ignorance in cowards. This is how these people feel and think on the inside and them showing that ugliness on the outside, in such a public forum, is grounds for getting themselves fired for stupidity alone. It's 2015 and social media has been a thing for years and cases like this has been a thing for years, there is no excuse as to now know that saying ignorant racist crap is going to get you in trouble.

And @ the people suggesting some ludicrous hypothetical situation where the racist kills himself because of the (deserved) backlash. Black kids are told every damn day that they are less than, that they are monkeys and that they are inferior to white people.
