POKEMON HEART GOLD & SOUL SILVER OFFICIAL COVERAGE
Technically, this begins our HeartGold & SoulSilver coverage.
*The first batch of Starters to consider are the Johto Starters. These are the Pokémon you shall be obtaining first in the game. You get these right at the start of the game. The Johto Starters are unique in that they and their fully evolved forms do not adopt any secondary types making them the only "pure" starter Pokémon.
With these Pokémon, the choice you make impacts the various other aspects of the game. Specifically, the rival character, Silver, will steal one of the other Pokémon, the one with the type advantage over yours, and his team will be adjusted accordingly.
*The second batch of Starters you will find are the Pokémon whom trainers start with when they begin the journey in Kanto. In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, these Pokémon are obtained by visiting Professor Oak after you have obtained all 16 Badges. He will compliment you on your success and provide you one of these Pokémon. As with all starters, they will be at Level 5.
* The third & final batch of Starters you will find are the Pokémon whom trainers start with when they begin the journey in Hoenn. In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, these Pokémon are obtained by visiting a person in Silph Co. in Saffron City after you have defeated Red (activation to be confirmed). He will compliment you provide you one of these Pokémon. As with all starters, they will be at Level 5.
* The male character is named Hibiki. Previously, Pokemon Sunday revealed that the girl was named Kotone.
* The opposite gender character meets you along the way in the game in the same manner as in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
* Early in your journey the opposite gender character gives you the Battle Recorder.
* Before you battle Falkner, you have to defeat the monks in Sprout Tower; otherwise you can't proceed all the way into the Gym. In the original games you could battle Falkner right away and either go to Sprout Tower before or after the Gym battle. Defeating the top mage would then grant you Flash, though that is probably still the same.
* The first major Team Rocket member to be encountered is Executive Staff Lance (no relation to Elite Four Champion Lance). He has two Pokemon.
* You get a Level 5 Eevee in Goldenrod City
* (Unconfirmed) You cannot trade with non-HG/SS games up to at least Ecruteak City.
* Like in the original Gold and Silver, you can just walk in to the Burnt Tower and find the three Legendary Beasts. Unlike the originals though, Eusine is there as well. Thus, the storylines for Crystal and Gold and Silver apparently merge at this point.
* First, Pal Park is in this game and is located in Fuchsia City where the Safari Zone was in FireRed & LeafGreen
* Next, you can trade from Diamond, Pearl & Platinum as soon as you get the Pokédex
* Snorlax is findable outside Diglett's Cave again at Level 50.
* Red is findable in Silver Cave again, with a slightly different Pokémon Roster
