I agree with some of this, tbh. What they did was wrong, and if the company chooses to fire him that's their prerogative. However the only people he owes an apology is the boy and his family (maybe African Americans to an extent). But the people who are contacting his job in a concerted to get him fired/ruin his life, I don't think they have the right to do that.

Perhaps, although one also has to note that in today's world that is probably not possible. Whats on social media is open to pretty much anyone so if you're going to say ****, one person may go to the extent of letting the employer know. One thing I don't agree with is the death threats etc, however I do think some form of consequence for these commenters is not really out of the picture.

I don't see anything wrong with employers knowing that they have someone like that working for them considering It actually could affect his ability to interact with and do business with black clients. In this particular situation, there's also the fact that the child was his coworker's so it makes even more sense that people wanted to alert his employer.

That's what bothers me. I agree it's dumb to post stuff like this on social media. But people are contacting people's bosses not b/c of something they did as an employee, but something that did in their personal lives. How far are people going to go with this? Calling the boss b/c someone is a bully? A drunk driver? An adulterer?

An employee's outside of work actions shouldn't directly reflect on the employer. Unless the employee is being racist while providing you bad customer service, what difference does it make?

What kind of hideous facebook friends does he have? My god! I'm appalled at them just opening saying such disgusting things. I hope those people who were commenting got fired as well!

What if this man also has a family including a son to feed ?
What if this man ends up committing suicide because not only has he lost his job (one of the main causes for male suicide) but because he's also facing an excessive backlash ?

I understand that people can be offended by his post but millions of offending posts are written every day on the internet and it's an essential part of free speech. Of course, this also means owning up to the consequences of what you write and if the company was displeased it was in their prerogative to fire him (though as BlueTimberwolf said, this is kind of step one for Big Brother), but I think that thousands of people insulting or pushing for you to be fired in a witch hunt is really pushing it.

Not everyone who joked/commented worked there, but people are still trying to get them fired. If I go to store and employee won't serve me b/c of my race that's one thing. But I probably get served by racists all the time without knowing. What difference does it make if they get me my burger on time? Or in this case, the black client could just ask for a different employee to work with them.
