No, it's the portion sizes in the US. If you go to a restaurant, they give you two to three meals worth of food in one entree. It's not like that in most other countries. Also, a lot of America (the south and middle specifically) eat a lot of barbecue, it's just part of the culture (ribs, pork, chicken) basically a ton of fattening meat and biscuits and such and I'm pretty sure that's where the largest amount of obese people in a region is IIRC. A lot of parents raise their kids with the intention to "not be wasteful" and to "eat everything on your plate", thus leading to bad habits picked up as children. On a brighter note, Mexico recently passed the US as the fattest country, so at least we aren't the worst now
