That said, not feeling all that sympathetic. I can get telling a joke between friends, but you should obviously know better than to post that on facebook. It's just unbelievably dumb and in poor taste since obviously that style of humor isn't for everyone. I do feel like firing was maybe a little overkill for a joke, I mean, there are disciplinary actions you can take besides that. Oh well.

No that man deserved to be fired. If you are ignorant enough to take a selfie with your co-worker's kid and then degrade him on FB with your friends, you deserved to be let go (as he was). Those other comments on FB were trash too

You may in fact lose a customer two, but will that matter in the grand scheme? Especially if the employee is a really good one.

You have got to be trolling right now.
A big corporation like Walmart would never want to be known as a company that condones racism. That individual would be fired immediatly. I could see the BestBuy advertisements already. "Shop at Bestbuy were we value EVERY customer".
There are tons of good employees to be found. Sure it's a loss, but the loss of negative publicity far outweighs the loss of a good employee.

Seriously. As said, I can get offensive humor and finding it funny, but there is a time/place for it and that's not on your Facebook feeds for everyone to see

Eh, completely true. Posting them on Facebook is x1000. Especially since he's marketing.

Who gives a flying **** if it was a joke. You can joke about anything and offend someone even if you didn't mean it. Jokes can go too far and it did here.

How stupid. I mean doing it anywhere is bad but doing it online where it's much more visible is just idiotic. Glad they got fired.

That wasn't my point though. Even with Best Buy negative advertisements would people stop shopping at Wal-Mart the number one corporation in the world? Walmart already has a pretty bad reputation on a multitude of levels and they are still killing it in the profits. Plus in today social media world controversies come and go. I'm not saying he shouldn't been fired, I'm just discussing it a macro level. I do think the businesses over-estimate the impact of "controversies" in general.

Your logic is awful.
Yeah, I mean make jokes about people's lives as if they aren't suffering enough already - as long as you don't really actively hate them!

Did you literally not read my "He deserved to be fired?"
As for offensive humor... have you taken a look at what site you're on? ATRL makes jokes about Leona being a horse, Beyonce bleaching her skin, Jessie J being a lesbian, Demi/Adele/Christina/Abigail Breslin's weight, Britney having a mental breakdown, Brandy's car crash, religion, gays, etc. Not to mention all the people who watch Scream Queens. And I am willing to bet you've made AT LEAST One on this site too, if not multiple. It's pretty hard for anyone to be on ATRL and be 100% opposed to offensive humor in every single situation. What I DID condemn was the platform and way he chose to make said jokes, which is tasteless, ignorant, and stupid. I also agree with the person who said taking a pic of his coworker's kid just to mock the kid was totally uncalled for and unacceptable. The guy deserved to be fired, what he did was wrong.
But am I, like, opposed to making a potentially offensive joke between two friends in private? No. Of course not. I'm on ATRL. I'd be a hypocrite if I said yes.

Yeah, it depends more on the industry and the size of the employer. With a huge employer like Walmart, it won't make much a dent.
At a marketing firm, it's pretty important. His action is a reflection of his work. If the guy isn't bright enough to realize his comments on social media are public and could cause a storm, he's probably not a "really good one" when it comes to marketing.

They do here lol. Why do you think they google each worker before they hire them, companies don't want to be associated with people like that which is completely understandable.

If companies didn't care about their reputations but solely about making money, most would not invent in good causes, limit their damage to the environment etc. If a company's reputation among its workers and the general public wasn't important, they wouldn't invest money trying to improve it.
Walmart, in 2015, invested a BILLION dollars in improiving its reputation.
"The pay bump is part of a $1 billion effort by Wal-Mart to improve its reputation among workers."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/b...00000-werkers/
Wal-Mart creates corporate affairs post in China to improve reputation
http://www.scmp.com/business/compani...ove-reputation
Walmart's willingness to invest so much money in their reputation shows how important it is. It doesn't really matter what you think, they have the financial numbers and they happen to think having a good reputation is necessary.
Walmart's willingness to invest billions >>> Your opinion that they're overestimating things (which you can't really back up with any data)

Mess. If anything, I'm disgusted by the posts here. Never found humour with the Leona/horse jokes, Beyonce bleaching her skin is racist and I wasn't raised in the jungle soooo.

You guys are really mad at someone saying ***king white people as if that compares at all to what they did to this boy or what black people(or poc) go through, especially at the hands of white people? You guys are so privileged and ignorant its embarrassing. You're more angry at that then the fact that this boy was the victim of horrible racist comments. Then all you do is complain about SJW because now you can't get away with being racist and insulting to others. Boo hoo society punishes you for being a f**knig terrible person. It is important to mention that they are white because its not an isolated incident or uncommon for white people to feel this way about black people. They just got caught, plenty don't. Plenty of them are our bosses, or professors, or neighbors, or police officers, or doctors, or whatever else in this white supremacist society. You can miss me with trying to come fr B'day like she's wrong
