RS praises Selena, shades Demi's success and growth

Call it pop's Pinocchio moment, as stars who got their starts as teens cut their strings and strut their stuff in order to prove they're real boys and girls.
Lovato is less successful playing the eager seductress on the Katy Perry-ish "Cool for the Summer" ("Got a taste for the cherry/I just need to take a bite"), but Gomez may be carving out a role for herself as a pop torch singer on tracks like "Good for You" and "Same Old Love" — songs that are moody and catchy without being obvious.
I wished their eras never intersected. It always end up like this with pop girls who release around the same time.
Selena is releasing better material though.
Didn't they ruthlessly drag Demi's VMA performance too
Yup lmao

Nobody can out-Miley Miley. Where Cyrus' twerking in 2013 was campy and goofy, Demi Lovato's hyper-sexual performance of "Cool for the Summer" — in which she popped cherry balloons and murdered a metaphor — came off as crass and too self-aware. Dressed in fishnets and lingerie, the singer opened the performance flanked by backup dancers who looked like marshmallow Peeps and thrusted her crotch. And even though Iggy Azalea's cameo was a mumbly mess, the worst part of the performance came when Lovato climbed into an inflatable raft bound for the audience only to be carried by security guards who wouldn't let the fans near her. It looked like the saddest mosh pit ever.
Cool For The Summer wasn't that childish though, specially the video, which was good.
Uh that's the point. RS is saying Demi is trying to force maturity through overt sexuality and she doesn't pull it off, whereas Selena has gone a more sultry subtle route.
