Discussion: Cheating the charts

I noticed that when ever a Popstar single start to fall. A viral video is released (parodies, covers, etc.) helping it regain sells and stream.

I knew you were trouble (feature the goat)
Bad blood (Bart barker, marvel vs DC, college humor etc.)
What do you mean(Bart barker, cover, etc. )
Wrecking ball ( parodies, etc.)
Nae Nae (vines, celebrities dancing, etc.)

I'm sure some of you are aware these parodies accounts are paid to do those videos. Same goes for popular cover accounts and many other popular YouTube accounts.

DO YOU THINK IT'S FAIR?

Ps. Because of this songs like Nae Nae and bad blood were able to hit #1.

Nae Nae didn't hit #1. It should've gone #1 with it's Streaming power though, despite the fact it'll be effortlessly forgotten come 1 year.

I'm pretty sure 99% of the time the artist or their label doesn't go up to people forcing them to cover their songs so they can rise.

They 'cheat' in other ways (last minute remixes, discounts, and promotion). None of it is really cheating though.

Don't know why ATRL is so obsessed with making it out to be cheating / unfair.

Lorde song "royal" went top 10 the moment college humor released their video back in 2013.

I see your point. But, call me maybe (irrelevant artist) became the world biggest hit with this method.

Quick note: The song wasn't even charting on any charts. Until, Selena and justin did that video.

You're wrong. No one was paying attention to lorde until those viral videos. They gave her momentum but her talent is what kept her stable.

No one was paying attention?

It went viral on spotify long before there were any pathetic parodies of the video. Believe it or not, there needs to be IMPACT before you can make a parody of something that will be popular

How do viral videos break rules? There's no cheating involved.

Cheating would be like payola or counting free "sales" like Gaon did before 2013
