Mariah should be higher than both those bitches in the OP
Unless you count writing schmaltzy cliché-ridden ballads with no edge as good songwriting, then it's unlikely Mariah will be taken seriously. Mariah has like 10 songs of note, most of her songs are just excuses to show off her range or safe options based on other songs in order to top the US charts.

u have no idea, child. have a seat and play with ur barbies.
i cant at all them kids commenting on artistry/songwriting/vocals whatevs and they have no clue what those words even mean. gurl bye
... Mariah was also credited as a songwriter and has started producing her own songs since her debut. What I don't understand here are the attempts to discredit her as a songwriter, she has written some of the most beautiful songs like Underneath the Stars and Breakdown - her underrated gems. I have no idea what Madonna has written that's why I asked. They're both fantastic songwriters and there's no need for hate.
This. I don't stan for Mariah but both her and Madonna are very strong songwriters. Madonna always has the beautiful melodies and hooks while Mariah is better at rhetorics and storytelling.

It's impossible to make a perfect, completely accurate list, so I'm not too upset by how it goes (opinions, after all), except for the fact that they put certain names in just for view baits (Taylor Swift, to be specific)
1) songwriting ability and talent goes far beyond how "deep" you get. It's a diverse skill.
2) these standards that music publications/media/fans have set are superficial. In reality, the Beatles didn't produce anything that's out of this world genius, sheep like you believe. Many musicians have made music just as good but because Beatles cocksuckers worship them like they're the one standard of quality music, everyone else is average... especially women. that's a load of ****.
