I remember I was in a restaurant last year and this couple in their 40s/50s were at a table just on their Apple products, not even looking at each other. It was quite cringe.
I wouldn't do this with someone I'm dating or a close friend but I'm guilty of it when I'm surrounded by people I only semi-know. I would never be rude about it, though.
