The word means the same thing it's always meant. Feminism hasn't "become" a single thing.
I hope you do realize that ten, twenty, thirty years ago, before all these untold horrid things done in the name of feminism supposedly happened, feminism received just as much scorn as it does today. Meryl Streep wouldn't have identified as a feminist then, either. You're just letting a negatively propagandized image of the movement and the stigma surrounding it affect your view of it. Just as people always have.
