It is perfectly legal to do this, and the cops (if this was in the US) would be in serious **** if they told the family she was alive. You are allowed to go willingly missing, and I'd be pissed off to no end if after 40 years of successfully escaping my previous life, a cop blabbed and let the world know who I am.
