Pretty easy for him to say. I think sexuality in general should be normalized. But idk. We know so much about established actors lives anyway so why does it matter whether they're out or not? I see his point and I agree to an extent, but again for gay people is there a real way to not "come out" and still live a normal life as an actor? It's something to think about I guess.
This is advice to "survive" in a heteronormative world
He means well but we shouldn't just be trying to survive, we should be accepted with open arms smh. Straights don't have to worry about stuff like this
It annoys me when you guys say "he's got a point!" because, actually, he doesn't. He tried to even out his statement by saying it shouldn't matter what your sexuality is, that should always be private, but in contrary to his earlier comments, what does that actually mean for a straight actor? Despite gay being okay nowadays, there's going to be the automatic assumption that comes with a male being heterosexual, but the line in the sand here is that that isn't really okay, and there shouldn't be an issue with Rupert Everett coming out but still having his love-life be private.
This isn't an issue for him. If the tabloids pick up he's sleeping with a chick, they pick up he's sleeping with a chick. If they pick up he's sleeping with a guy, that opens a whole other can of worms that actually shouldn't be opened, and that's what makes this statement kind of silly.
