Yes. The reason for this is the fact that black people have been subjected to and basically had white and euro-centric beauty standards forced upon us for centuries. We have been brought up and conditioned to believe that straight hair is more desirable, lighter is better, etc and it has been something that has been instilled in our culture for generations upon generations. Hair straightening actually originated in the early 1900's because our natural hair was seen as unkempt and unprofessional and we literally had no choice if we wanted to get jobs. It has more to do with social norms and a history of oppression than actually WANTING to be white. But I mean BOOK!
