Jay-Z has reportedly asserted that rappers should cease writing lyrics about "the hood" because they have it easy compared to those suffering in Africa.
The 39-year-old recently travelled to the poverty-stricken continent to examine his Water For Life charity project in action, and was allegedly devastated by what he saw.
"Rappers say they're from the hood. They're not," the 'Run This Town' star told the Daily Record. "Bella is from the hood. She's that girl in the village in Africa who wakes up every morning to get water for her family.
"The water she carries is half her body weight. There is no bathroom in her house. Just listening to that, don't you feel it puts everything into perspective? Being in Africa shows you how small the world is and puts everything into focus."
The hip-hop artist also declared that he is happy to use his profile to help those less fortunate, saying: "If I can use my celebrity status to bring awareness to something, I will. Giving is the purest form of charity, and without sounding cheesy, I like to give - it makes me feel good."
As previously reported, Jay-Z told fans to "enjoy" his new album The Blueprint 3 after it leaked online ahead of its release.
