None of the models right now have it veering out to sea. We'll see what the models say when it gets updated in the next few hours.

The Northeast is expected to get several inches of rain over the next few days and I'm expecting some localized areas potentially getting a foot of rain. Then if/when Joaquin gets here this weekend, it could spell disaster.

Is Joaquin gonna be a strong tropical storm or a Hurricane?

It's still too far out to actually know.

Recon investigating Joaquin has found surface winds of 65mph already. That is about 48 hours ahead of the official intensity forecast and, also of note, the storm is under 20-25 knots of shear which will not be present in a few days. This could be an interesting storm

So do they have Joaquin taking a left hook like Hurricane Sandy?

Yes, some of them show a hurricane veering into the NJ/Delmarva region.

IDK if it is all directly related to Joaquin, though.

The Northeast has been more prone to stronger storms than the Gulf Coast in the past few years.

It's not related right now, as Joaquin is still too far south. It'll create massive flooding problems if it makes landfall in the Northeast as it'll add to the several inches we're gonna get the next few days. It does have similarities to Sandy as it's very possible that it could hook before landfall; whether that's in Virginia or Long Island remains unknown right now.

I live in/go to college in Maryland, and last night we had some ridiculous storm which flooded like the whole state, it was ******* insane. I don't remember the last time we had a storm like that. And now they're calling for more tomorrow night through Sunday and if this hurricane hits Last night, cars in the parking lot of my apartment complex were completely submerged in water.

Sandy formed at the end of October and so did Wilma.

A landfall in Virginia Beach would be catastrophic. All the rain expected to fall will make the rivers swell and more with in addition to storm surge being forces up these rivers. I'm expecting a really bad event. We need to get more confidence on where this place will make landfall so we can inform the public to evacuate in the necessary areas. The models still have it landfall anywhere from North Carolina to New Jersey.
