Poll: If You Adopt, Will Skin Color Be A Factor?

If you ever adopt a child, will skin color be something you take into consideration. Many white people adopt children of color and think it's beautiful & shows diversity. Some people feel like whites shouldn't adopt minorities, as they feel white person cannot properly immerse and teach a black/hispanic/asian person about their culture. It's also extremely rare that we see black people adopting white children.

Should people who adopt take color into consideration?

Well, I don't know about the rest of y'all, but if I, for example, was friends with a woman who got pregnant by some deadbeat, and knew she couldn't raise the child herself, and asked if I would adopt her child, I'm not going to be like "Sorry, but the baby is not my skin color, and unspoken law dictates that I should only raise a child of my own skin color. You're gonna have to put into the foster care system where it will most likely end up having a ****** childhood. :/"

Then again, I'm not sure if I would even adopt to begin with. All I'm saying is I wouldn't not adopt a child based on their skin color. If they were a different race than me, I'd try the best I could to learn about their culture so I could pass it onto them.

No. I do believe that it's important to adopt minorities and teach adopted children their culture, though.

Eh I don't think so. If a kid needs a home, I would love to adopt her/him, no matter their skin colour.

I don't really think it should be a factor seeing as how it's good just to adopt period.

However you do have to realize if you're white and adopting a minority child that they can't learn about race really through you because you won't understand. Either they won't learn at all which would be really bad (see for example my cousin) or they'll have to learn through outside sources.

If I were to ever adopt, I would preferably look to adopt a black or minority kid since they are the least adopted.. but if there is a white kid that I want to adopt, I wont discriminate. Race isn't that big of a deal I'll love the kid regardless.

People who have an issue with others adopting out of their race (usually white people adopting black kids) annoy me. Would you rather they have no home? You really think white parents can't raise them properly?

Aren't the minority children the cheapest and most likely to be in adaption anyway? You kind of just have to not be a racist or coined up if you wanna adapt anyway.

But if I did I would be worried about adopting a child who will face adversities and discrimination that I won't be able to guide him through with experience. That being said I'm not opposed to it at all if a kid needs a home and I can at least offer them one.
