If you can't sing live and dance at the same time, then you shouldn't even try TBH...I'd rather a pop star sound good + not dance than lip sync + dance
Honestly, I really don't think being a good dancer should be a pre-requisite for being a pop star. Being marketable and entertaining should be...but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to be an amazing dancer.
Because of the backlash generated by Britney's generation. People get fed up by labels putting anyone with a pretty face and shaking some exposed body parts on MTV. Dancing was considered as something any talentless person could do to distract the people from the music, vocals, lyrics, meaning,... In 2003 people ran away from pop to become alternative, metal, goth, hardcore punk,... looking for artists who actually sings live, write their own music,...
The 2008-2013 generation pop girls had to answer the criticism of the previous generation and knows that nobody is going to value dancing.
Tbh, that's why pop girls are called poptards. Musicians don't dance.
God no I would boycott American pop music if this happened
They all look the same (I can say this b/c I'm Asian ), sound the same, and are abused so much

This attitude is why the genre has so much negative stigma
I personally love choreography, especially in videos, but I don't necessarily think it should be a pre-requisite nor do I think popstars that can't dance aren't as talented. Id just like to have a few more who do dance though
I notice that in this thread, stans of a particular 2 or 3 artists are basically saying that being a good performer overall doesn't really matter. Interesting.
