I don't. I'm not religious, but the basic idea of religions isn't a bad one. It's the religious people who believe that their religion is better than other people's whom I can't stand. The ones I despise are extremists.

Yes, religion is disgusting. Religious-inspired hate is so deep in our society that most people doesn't even realize and falls for the "Love your neighbor " crap and only cares about the "extremists "

I do believe that it was necessary for mankind, but it should've been ditched a few centuries ago.

I think religion would be more palatable if religious lawmakers and voters didn't try to force intolerance. Like no liberal is saying you can't go to church, everyone needs to get an abortion, everyone needs to get married to someone of the same gender. They just want rights for the people who don't subscribe to a certain religion (i.e. Christianity).

So yes, religion is at fault.

Religion can be a source of hate and war, but it can also be a source of love and acceptance.

I'm out and gay and a pretty avid Presbyterian. I've worked at a church camp for 4 years and they are cool with me. I understand why some people don't like religion, but I've literally never had a bad experience with it. My most positive coming out experiences were with religious people and my best friends are all people I've met through the Presbyterian church. And they never have seem sheltered or different to me or naive. Some of them are the most educated, tolerant, and loving people I've ever met.

My personal belief set is fairly agnostish right now, but I also recognize what a big part religion played in turning me into the person I am today and even if I move away from it, I will always think of it fondly and enjoy going back to church just for the sense of ritual and comfort.

I don't hate religion, it can produce good and evil equally, but I absolutely loathe the churches (meaning the organisations). No matter what they do, I just feel like they're hypocritical greedy bastards. I can barely step into churches because they represent them.

No, inside a religion there are multiple factions.

e.g. Old school catholics are conservative and the Pope is usually selected as the most conservative of bunch conservative people. "New school" catholics have progressive views, I use quotes because those priests and monks are already old enough to be in retirement.

It really depends on who you meet.

Church attendance is so low in Europe that we only use them for marriages to look more special than signing a piece of paper in a town hall. Not a real factor here.
