I don't know since I've never been in this position. I think it totally depends on the situation of the break-up and how you stand with that person.

I don't think I could ever go there and date a friends EX, it would feel way too weird.

Regardless of what anyone says you'll be losing both short after or immediately. There's no preventing this unless the 'friend' decides not to date your ex because of your friendship.
