Yeah, there's basically 3 dialects in Australia. Broad/strine, general and cultivated. Broad/strine being the rural/bogan accent, general being that of most people, and cultivated - similar to how Nicole Kidman/Cate Blanchett speak.
I don't necessarily agree that the further north you go, the worse it gets. It has more to do with social class and
generally, the further from the city centre, the more harsh the accent (again, pertinent to social class).
Adelaide is the only regional dialect.
