He said "nowhere near as successful as their predecessors." Dignity sold over 4x less than her previous album. It couldn't even scan gold while her last one sold around ~1.8 million.
He's not comparing them to each other, but to each girls respective catalog. Any which way you try to spin it, it was much less successful than her previous effort. It makes a lot of sense.
