The content of the album may be sugary pop, but to be released by an artist like her was a huge risk.

I completely agree with this post. Katy Perry or typical pop stars releasing an album like 1989 isn't risky. But an artist like Taylor Swift releasing the same album is a definite risk. Not only did she completely shake up her style and image but Taylor is rather conservative. In pop music, most of the time it's all about selling sex and mature themes so it's interesting to watch her outsell all of her peers without doing any of that and without following the typical mold and stereotypes of a pop star. She took a risk in crossing over genres and it paid off obviously.
