Celeb News: White Feminist comes for Viola Davis Anti-Racism Speech

Nancy Lee Grahn faced the wrath of Twitter for her controversial comments about Viola Davis' Emmy acceptance speech Sunday.

Davis made history on Sunday, becoming the first black actress to take home an Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role on How to Get Away with Murder.

Grahn, 57, went on to suggest that the Murder actress hasn't experienced discrimination in Hollywood.

"I think she's the bees knees but she's elite of TV performers. Brilliant as she is. She has never been discriminated against," Grahn wrote to one Twitter user.

After receiving serious backlash for her comments, Grahn apologized: "Viola Davis winning lead actress Emmy's historic. My upset is acting awards dont fix racial injustice. As an actor I see how irrelevant we r. I never mean to diminish her accomplishment. She is a goddess. I want equality 4 ALL women, not just actors."

The actress issued a lengthy apology at one point in the night, writing: "I apologize for my earlier tweets and now realize I need to check my own privilege. My intention was not to take this historic and important moment from Viola Davis or other women of color but I realize that my intention doesn't matter here because that is what I ended up doing. I learned a lot tonight and I admit that there are still some things I don't understand but I am trying to and will let this be a learning experience for me."

All black people have it worse than white women in Hollywood. That's why its a POC thing and not a feminism thing. Of course there's some intersectionality, women have it worse than men.. so black women(or WOC) have it the hardest. Ya'll don't need to be included in everything

Exactly this. Her apology is 100% as irrelevant as she is. The simple fact that she even allowed her original comments to come out of her mouth and actually expected people to agree with her is where the real problem lies.

This is exactly why I had a bit of a problem with Viola her speech (or rather, her use of the quote). These white women are NOT stretching their arms out over the line and to you, they're just here for themselves.
