Kelly just released the last album in her contract with RCA/19, and there has been a lot of talk about what she's doing as far as signing with a new label or staying with RCA. She has been unhappy with them about a lot of things in the past (mainly when Clive Davis was involved) but has been very happy with them since releasing Stronger in 2011....since then, she's released a Greatest Hits album, a Christmas album, and her latest Pop album Piece By Piece.
Here's an excerpt from an interview with RCA Chiefs Peter Edge and Tom Corson:
Quote:
Kelly Clarkson’s deal is up. Are you going to re-sign her, despite her past disagreements with 19 Records and Clive Davis?
Corson: Absolutely. The various nuances to that relationship that precede us ... more emotionally for her than anything else, needed to be [addressed]. We’ve been talking about renewing a deal with her for a couple of albums, and we have every confidence it will work out. We love Kelly and she loves us, we think.
Guys, RCA was fantastic with her for Stronger and Wrapped In Red. This latest era hasn't done well for a lot of reasons.
She's been in the same contract for 13 years to release 6 Pop albums, there were certain restrictions and conditions on it. A new deal doesn't have to have the same conditions, could give her more freedom, etc. For example, Sia signed a contract with RCA that allowed her to release music without promoting it (although she ended up doing some occasional promo by her own choice). Every contract/deal is different.
Kelly wants to release an R&B/Pop album, a Country album, a Broadway album....I just want her to be with a label that supports her, gives her that freedom, and that she has a good relationship with, so I think a new deal with RCA could really be great.
I think Kelly is enjoying the new A&R team at RCA. Because the people that worked with her during the SONY BMG era with My December have either left or have died off. So if she's happy with RCA, then let her resign.
That is why Pink also resigned. Avril hated the new team at RCA, idk why though.
I hope that whatever winds up happening, switching labels or renegotiating her contract, I just hope it gives her back the drive and fire that seem to be missing from her this era in all aspects besides her tour.

Hun... she's busy raising a child. That takes a lot of energy.
