Lana called out by MTV for her feminism views
Why I Wish Lana Del Rey Would Call Herself A Feminist Already
Quote:
I’ve been a huge fan of your music for years. I so distinctly remember sitting in my dorm at NYU, watching “Video Games” for the first time. I was instantly hooked by the song’s haunting sense of longing and the ethereal melodies. It takes courage to express vulnerability, and to express that vulnerability in such a rich, relatable way is truly a talent.
All that said, I have to be honest: I’ve been feeling disappointed by you lately, and I want you to be better.
I was more than a little taken aback last year, when you told The Fader that “the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept” to you.
By way of an explanation you said, “I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. … Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, ’God. I’m just not really that interested.'”

First thing’s first, I totally agree with you: space is f–king awesome. Seriously, I could live at the Hayden Planetarium, surviving only on dry ice cream and gift shop amenities. I worship the ground Neil deGrasse Tyson walks on (does he walk? I imagine he glides, hovering ever-so-slightly above the earth).
But girl, you can love space and care about women’s rights too. Sally Ride was interested in the same “intergalactic possibilities” that fascinate you. That’s why she decided to rocket straight outta our atmosphere, making history as the first American woman in space. And guess what? She was a feminist!

Look, it’s no artist’s duty to do anything, but it’s worth considering what certain actions would mean to your fans, especially younger ones. Maybe you could take a cue from some of your own idols, who’ve made incredible music while using their celebrity status to advance social progress. I know you love Lou Reed, so lets use him as an example. Reed wasn’t just a legendary musician, but also was a champion of LGBT rights who used his art as an opportunity to discuss issues like the treatment of bisexual people. In “Kill Your Sons,” for example, he wrote about the electroshock therapy he was given as a teen to “cure” him of his bisexuality.
I guess all I’m trying to say here is that Lana, “I love you, but you’re bringing me down.” (I know that’s not your song, but you get what I mean). I know you’re smart, I know you’re creative and I know you care about women. But it would mean a lot to me — and potentially a lot of other young, female fans — if you showed it a little better.

Hate articles that blast public figures for not saying or thinking "the right thing".

While I agree, it's a little ridiculous for someone in this day and age to think that women shouldn't be equal to men.
What's so wrong with identifying with that?

That was not her point. She explained in another article that she hasn't read enough about femism to discuss that topic in a way it should be discussed.
I get that. Gay rights wouldn't also be a topic I would love to discuss myself.

That's not what she said tho.
And I agree with her. I think there are bigger issues than in terms of science. If the world ends by global warming there wont be anyone left to fight for feminism, in fact there won't be anyone left.
Our world faces bigger issues than society's, we are dealing with survival, The men ****ed up, and now we are dealing with the consequences.
But hey this is just my opinion.

I think it also has to do with the fact that people will latch onto it and create all these socio-political narratives that she might not understand or care about. Like "why is Lana working with the Weeknd when she calls herself a feminist!" etc...etc...Just little annoying things people do on the internet when they are given an inch.

thats not what she said
she said that there are bigger issues to be focused on such as science and our planet which she is right without our planet there will be no men or women to be equal with each other

Why does she have to put a label on her views? She is entitled to her individual opinion. SJW mess at its finest

The problem with feminism, ironically, has nothing to do with what feminism itself, but rather how its defined.
Activists (and only them) are aware that the definition of a feminist is anyone who believes in equal rights, but in the REAL WORLD, people associate it more with actively fighting for those rights on some level.
And tbh, the latter context should be the true definition, because otherwise you can say that 98% of the western world are feminists, but in reality it means nothing. It's an empty number because 96% of that 98% couldn't give a **** less when it comes to taking action on this stance.
So when these celebs say they're not feminist, they mean they aren't attached to the cause in any meaningful way. It does NOT mean they believe women should be second class citizens But SJW's aren't famous for their rationale thought.

this tbh
there isnt just one type of feminist
there are several different types that stand and fight for different issues (example: black feminists fighting for racial issues)

u can't really force someone into feminism just like u really can't tell someone that their form or definition of feminism is invalid when it's completely a social construct
just saying

this type of thinking imposes one view on 7 billion people and the likelihood of that working out correctly.... isn't a lot
'true' or 'real' or 'perfect' feminism is a pipe dream ya'll

It's just because of the misconception of what feminism actually is.
If everyone understood feminism is just the belief that women are equal to be men and should be treated as such most people would be feminists.
