Tom Hardy clarifies his reaction due to sexuality question
LEARN WHAT HAPPENED HERE
After all kinds of reactions on Tom Hardy's answer to an impertinent journalist asking him if he was gay in the middle on a press conference, the actor decided to sincere himself on the matter on this week's issue of the Enternainment magazine.
Quote:
'That really, really annoyed me'
Actor says he found the line of questioning 'inelegant' and 'humiliating'
"I’m happy to have a conversation, a discussion, at a reasonable time about anything. I’m confident in my own sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own being and talking about any issue you want to talk about it. But there is a time and a place for that.”
Hardy says he felt the question was asked only to elicit a salacious response. “I found it very humiliating for somebody to decide that on his dime and his time, to openly and inelegantly pursue a line of questioning which I could only sense at the moment — which was quite awkward — that it was zeroing in on a reaction from me that would become a topic of discussion that had nothing to do really, really to do with what was there.”
The interest in Hardy’s sexuality has been an online talking point since the Attitude quotes went viral in 2010. In the ensuing years, the 38-year-old has been asked about his sexuality often, and has responded repeatedly, in various levels of explicitness, that he is straight.
But it was the manner in which Hardy was asked about it on Sunday that the actor says felt like a real invasion of privacy. “It’s so important to the LGBT [community] that people actually feel safe about their sexuality and are able to speak freely and not be stigmatized or feel like they are being pointed out,” Hardy says. “Why point me out, assuming that I’m gay because I’m ambiguous about it, which I’m very clear if you look into what I’ve said in the past.”
Hardy adds that he feels badly for the reporter, whom he believes didn’t mean anything malicious by the question, yet he can’t seem to shake the interaction.
“I’m quite sensitive and I feel like I’ve let people down for something that I actually didn’t ask for, for something that’s important to a lot of people,” he says. “Should I come out of the closet when I’m not in one? I ought to maybe come out of the closet, even though that’s a lie, to do the right thing. Or, if I say no, then I’m homophobic? Bless him, he’s young. But at the same time, it left me feeling like I have to do something about that. And it’s like why? Whose business is it anyway and isn’t that the point?”

So, guys, what's wrong with being, what's wrong with being confident? Do you understand his position? Do you think actors should fake their feelings on their sexuality for success? This is Teneo and you're watching another official Tom Hardy coverage on this handsome actor, here, on ATRL.

He shouldn't need to clarify.

This, but I agree with him.
If he's promoting X project, then why would you ask him about personal stuff instead of something related to the project?

Very eloquently handled. I like him. He seems like a really decent guy and a great actor.

I guess this is his way of saying he isn't str8? In the past(before stardom), he has admitted to sleeping with men, no?

He's bisexual and backtracking. We've all seen the Myspace photo of him showing off his cake for the tops.

No, he said that he did certain things with men and that he enjoyed it, but that he wasn'y sexually attracted to men in general. That pic is not from his Myspace and thus, we don't know if it's really him.
I just think that some people's sexuality can not be "labeled" as heterosexualiy, homosexuality or bisexuality. From what he talked about and discussed it on public, Tom's sexuality might be a little more complicated that "I just like women/men", and I understand him because I'm like that too. It's okay that some people feel absolutely gay/straight/bi, but people need to understand that not everything is white, black or grey, and you can be confident in yourself and not just "confused" if you think the way Tom thinks.

I hate how people have this idea that because someone is a celebrity every part of their life is up for discussion. Literally everyone has a right to their own privacy
Good on him

He must feel like he's talking to a wall all the time. He has explicitly stated that he is STRAIGHT. Listen and move on.

Have you ever had any sexual relations with men?
As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for ****’s sake. I’m an artist. I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me. In the same way as a wet vagina would turn someone else into a lemon-sucking freak. To me it just doesn’t compute now I’m into my 30s and it doesn’t do it for me and I’m done experimenting.

He is str8 indeed. Like spaghetti, before its cooked.

Why would he admit to experimenting with men but not being bisexual?
If he identifies straight, I believe him. You guys seem to buy into the notion that men can't have "experimental" phases like a lot of straight women do.

I find it weird how out culture won't let straight men sexually experiment the way we let straight women. He had some fun, it wasn't for him, and he identifies as straight. It's gross how people won't accept that.

Like, I don't get why people feel fustrated when an actor's sexuality does not match theirs. If he's gay or bi, do you feel better because of it? Do you think you have a chance of having a relationship with him just because he could be attracted to men? Hell, I would be the first one in line if him being gay guaranteed me a chance of dating him, but that's just not realistic.
And if he's not gay or bi, do you feel more distant to him? Do you think he does not do his job as good as always? Like I said, I don't think Tom is one of those person which can be labeled as hetero/homo/bi, and that is always harder to communicate than to just say that you're straight or whatever, because people seem to understand boxed concepts, but when the concept goes out of the box, they feel uncomfortable and call it weird/fake.
