Yes and no. I'm proud of a lot of things about Italy but half of my family is Austrian. Plus Italians have to be some of the least patriotic people in Europe, since the country is still strongly divided into north and south.

I don't hate my country and I realize I'm privileged to live in America, but I think our system and what this country was built on is too problematic to ignore and doesn't deserve any type of praise.

I get it from my parents tho. They didn't even like that I was forced to say the pledge of allegiance. I have no problem with people being patiotic, but it annoys me when some want to completely ignore the atrocities that have been commited by Americans and pretend it's all quaint. "America!!! Troops!!! 4th of July!!!! Little Timmy playing in the front yard with Mary Sue!!!!"

No, the meaning of patriotism in Russia is particulary twisted and simplified to the government worshipping or focusing on superficial achievements only to bring down other countries. Enlightened Russians tend to express their love of the country without bias and labels, though it's still considered "real patriotism" by some people.
