Y'all really need to stop thinking that this era is the be-all, end-all. It's not. Music is a lot more accessible. That doesn't mean artists of this generation were or are more popular than artists of previous generations. And considering the fact that Janet is one of the best-selling female artists of all time and released like...half the amount of records of her peers, like Mariah, Madonna and Celine, that should tell you something about just how popular she was. But of course, y'all never put anything in its proper context.
