There are multiple "it girls" per year. I don't know why you all run around having this same conversation every two months. As if there could only be one girl slaying in 2011, and if she slayed 2011, she's not allowed to "own" any other year because they each deserve 1 year and 1 year only. It's a stupid game.

If we're going by newer artists so far I'd say it's Meghan. She had one big hit this year (Lips Are Movin'), one other ok sized hit (Dear Future Husband), not to mention her collaboration with Charlie is starting to take off, and she may potentially have a sleeper hit with Like I'm Going To Loose You coming as well. Her album is also one of the best selling albums of the year so far too. Selena and Demi could be coming too as their leads have set them up pretty well for what's to come. Or maybe Ellie might finally have her big breakthrough in the states. But as of right now it's probably Meghan if we only had to pick one.

I'm not even a Miley fan. Being an "it girl" is more than just sales, and that's why I consider Miley it for 2013. It was a breakthrough for her, she was who everyone was talking about, etc. Katy had big success but it wasn't as notable of a moment for her as it was for Miley.

And I'm not going by debuts, Rihanna had a very big year in 2008....GGGB:R...Don't Stop The Music, Disturbia, Take A Bow, Live Your Life, etc.
