Actually you can teach a college bachelor's degree in Canada with only a Masters, which you can attain for one year.

So you can pretty much start teaching when you're in your late 20s... PhD's is nice, but Masters is more than sufficient to make you $100,000+ as a professor in my college..

After 4 years of degree program, a year of masters, and maybe 5 years of field experience, you can be a professor early in your career.

In my college at least, field expertise outweights years and years of PhD theorems and whatnot. So I don't get why you're so upset.

Salary means nothing when it's not adjusted to living standards.

Someone making 100k a year and living in NYC would not be the same as someone making 100k and living in Minneapolis. I know the article states that.

Not to mention things are much cheaper in the US than in Canada.

Also teachers are unionized and it's a disaster. Professors should not be unionized too. And a professor working at an Ivy League would get money for speeches, books and so on. They're set. Just being at a Ivy as a professor gives you so much prestige.

After working in research for my master's, I knew what it's like for the phd students so I didn't bother

Canadian Professors get way too much money.

My Professor for Environmental Resources last year only taught one class/week for an hour and thirty minutes and made $150K/year. She didn't even do any of the marking, or entered our grades into the system.

What's worst? She barely did any research. Really don't think was deserving of it all.

how can you compare Gaga to, say, Einstein or those who will find a cure to HIV?

I found most of them were nasty people but at least they are useful... My supervisor would work like 20 hours per day, had a nervous breakdown, became alcoholic etc. in the name of science lol

Exactly my point, people who work in academe think they are more important than others. No one really cares about einstein, Gaga changed millions of lives with BTW whether you like it or not.
