I always wonder why Avril Lavigne's Nobody's Home was a flop. It was released as the third single off Under My Skin. The album that ended up selling around 10 million copies worldwides.

It followed a smash hit My Happy Ending, which was a #1 single worldwides. It was one of fan fav tracks from the album and even haters loved the song.

Why it only peaked at #41 on Hot 100 and also flopped everywhere else

It's really catchy, so I don't know. Maybe people thought it was too emo?

I wasn't even charted in MTV Asia countdown where Don't Tell Me went #1 for 5 straight weeks and He Wasn't peaked inside Top 5

That's a really good question because I remember buying the CD when "My Happy Ending" was taking its course and I wanted "Nobody's Home" to be the next single, it's right after MHE on the track listing, maybe radio thought it was too similar to the former song??

Fall to Pieces was the real smash that got away though. They decided to release "He Wasn't" everywhere else except the US and Canada where they like sort of released FTP but then they cancelled the video and it had already gone like Top 20 on HAC radio and then it was just dropped all together :cry: What a messy, messy release. They should've just released FTP everywhere because that was the sound that people liked from her

Avril's career is one of the most poorly managed I've ever witnessed of an artist. She had so many other songs that could've been considered "signature Avril songs", they just never got a chance

Too emo like previously mentioned. Also the black wig she wore in the video added to that. And not a typical radio track. Also less promo I guess.

Releasing He Wasn't was such a bad decision, like Who even liked that song?

Maybe it was a hit in the US. Back in 2004 the Hot 100 wasn't a reliable source for telling which songs were hits or not as it was purely based on radio.

they released it because they knew the next album going to be more upbeat & pop, so released an upbeat track to make GP ready for TBDT

If I remember correctly a few years ago an admin on her biggest fan site posted that we shouldn't spam those radio request forms for WTH because the fans did that for Nobody's Home and radio dropped the song because they thought it was spam bots requesting or something...

Didn't know FTP reach Top 20 on HAC back then but i understand why they cancel it. Nobody's Home is still a (much) stronger track on the album and i swear everybody (include her fans and haters) i know liked the song and her performance of the song. If Nobody's Home could not smash, i don't think FTP could.

He wasn't was like weakest track on the album though. I don't even understand why they picked that song. Maybe after Nobody's Home flopped, they think they should release some thing less emo and more radio friendly .

It was HUGE in my country. I wouldn't say it was a flop honestly. Moderate.

I have no idea. This is my favorite song from Avril and pretty much my favorite song of all time. I wish she still made music like this.
