According to the website Top40-Charts.com, Adam Lambert’s ‘Ghost Town’ is the No. 5 track in Russia.
That’s right, a song by the out and proud Adam Lambert may very well be one of the most popular songs the Russian. In case you forgot, Russia’s not too keen on the gays.
The site reports that the lead single off Lambert’s third album, The Original High, took the fifth spot last week and held tight through July 20, which is the date of Top40-Charts.com’s latest report.
The Russian government has taken a hard line stance against performers who might violate their ban on “homosexual propaganda.” Putin threatened to jail Madonna for violating the law and a Russian court ruled that Lady Gaga violated the law at a 2012 gig in Moscow. Her Russian concert promoter was fined for the offense.
Like a lot of news out of Russia it’s hard to suss out truth from rumors, but this news is in keeping with the Russian pop sensibility. A survey of Russia's popular entertainment ecosystem shows that the Russian public has a penchant for gender-bending performers. Lambert, who has never been afraid of a little guy liner, certainly fits that bill.
