Do you put one space or two spaces after a period when typing?
I was always taught two spaces, but I've noticed a lot of people doing only one space here.
The reason for the two spaces was because of typewriters and their monospaced font.
With the space between the letters bigger than it is now, typewritists used two spaces to distinguish sentences from each other more easily.
APA style recently updated to say 2 spaces are better than 1
Quote:
Punctuation—return to two spaces after the period at the end of the sentence recommended for ease of reading comprehension.
