you're missing the point, if someone's really unattractive then you're just not gonna take the time to even get to know them so to get someone's attention first, you need to be at least ok looking.
im not saying personality doesn't matter for a long term relationship bc it does but most people aren't gonna pay attention to you in a sexual/romantic way if they don't find you attractive, it's literally hardwired into our brains to think like that
i agree that personality is more important in the long term but first impressions count and first impressions are most often based on the way you look
