Her grandfather, Wallace Ward (aka Frank R. Wallace), was convicted of tax fraud and tried to weasel out of it by saying the oath was against his religion. He had a federal court case.
I found this on a forum from 2005 about his money making scam.
Her dad literally writes the same 10 page letter to the people he tries to scam for $135 and tells them they're "the one" and not to share the secret with anyone.
